Science is all around us… God has created this world in such an amazing and awe-inspiring way that there are endless possibilities for children to explore the many facets of His creation. Children are naturally drawn to use their senses of touch, sight, smell, taste, and hearing to examine the world around them.

The CCDC Science labs provide sensory and experience-rich environments where children are encouraged to observe, explore, and interact with scientific materials and experiences designed for their age and ability level.

The goal of a science program for young children is to provide a hands-on, super-engaging environment that will help them to understand the scientific process and introduce them to basic scientific information in such a way that they will want to continue learning about science with enthusiasm and confidence.

Science Units
We explore the properties of air and water, magnets, rocks and fossils, dinosaurs, simple machines, measurement (linear, volume, weight ,and temperature), color and light, plant life, insects, food and nutrition, the human body, sea life, outer space, life cycles, birds, volcanoes, rainforests… just to name a few!

Science Lab for 4s and 5s

Science Lab for 4s and 5s will have an extended, more in-depth lesson than our 2s and 3s Science Labs. The children will enter Science class where the science teacher will introduce the topic of the week. She will take between 5 and 10 minutes to go over the lesson and then allow the children to freely explore all the activities prepared for the lesson, as well as all of the other science items in the science area. The science teacher is very thorough in her lesson plans and preparations and the children enjoy investigating and experimenting in science class. 

Science Lab for 2s and 3s

There is so much for 2s and 3s to learn about science! We introduced our second Science lab in 2004. We started this class so that the children would begin to develop a strong foundation in science skills at an even earlier age. The children in this lab explore animals, healthy bodies, signs of new life, senses and much more.

Class is structured similarly to the lab for our 4 and 5-year-olds, however the lesson is brief and age-appropriate. The children are then encouraged to become scientists and to explore all of the wonderful hands-on items found in the science lab. They hear rich vocabulary and experience science using all of their senses!
