Drama

DramaAPretend to be a tree – a fish – or a growing flower! This is an artistic outlet all children relate to in a positive way. Drama and music stimulates intellectual growth while allowing children to explore their creativity! Drama class at Calvary CDC incorporate music and dramatics and allows children freedom to develop many new skills. Among the skills enhanced are social/emotional awareness, gross motor abilities, listening skills and  body awareness – all while having fun!

Research conducted worldwide has proven that exposure to music is critical to brain development and helps children with a variety of skills. Math concepts are introduced at a young age through music. Patterns, shapes, sizes, loud/soft, up/down, high/low are just a few examples of math in music.

DramaBIncluded in her weekly lesson plans are activities the Drama teacher plans that motivate the children to learn an appreciation for all types of music: jazz, classical, Children′s classics, Christian music, and music from different parts of the world, to name just a few.

A variety of musical instruments are always on hand to play along with the music, such as rhythm sticks, tambourines, maracas, triangles, and bells. Movement activities that are introduced include partner dancing, dancing with scarves, rhythmic ribbons, and free motion dance movements. We also have many beautiful finger puppets that the children use for dramatic purposes and for rhyme and poetry reciting.
