Kindergarten

Calvary Kindergarten offers a comprehensive educational program which includes language arts, math, science, social studies, and Bible study. Our daily schedule also includes enrichment classes which consist of art, Fun-A-Round, science, computer, drama/music, Spanish, and multicultural studies. We are committed to creating a loving, flexible atmosphere for learning through exploration and having fun!

Our language and reading program is the Recipe for Reading program. It is a comprehensive multi-sensory language arts program that correlates reading, auditory, language, and handwriting skills. This language program provides children with a thorough understanding of the letters of the alphabet and their sounds, and how those sounds are blended to form words. The program also incorporates various activities for the development of manual dexterity, perceptual awareness, and other essential readiness skills. This research-based, comprehensive, multisensory, phonics-based reading program is introduced in small and large group instruction using whole language experiences and learning centers as enrichment to reinforce the skills being taught.

Our Kindergarten science curriculum includes:

  • The Food Groups
  • Our five senses
  • Seasons
  • Weather
  • Transportation
  • Community Helpers
  • Animals
  • Plants
  • Insects

Everyday Math is the hands-on, problem-solving curriculum we use to introduce mathematical concepts in our Kindergarten classes. This program is based on current research evaluating the most effective ways to teach young children mathematics. The method stresses real life mathematical experiences rather than pages and pages of abstract drill. The children become actively involved with concrete materials and make many discoveries. Over the school year, the children work with pattern, parting and classifying, graphing, measurement, addition and subtraction, probability, place value and problem solving.

Kindergarten is offered both as a Standard Program and as a Daycare Program. Flexible Extended Care hours are available as well. If a parent chooses the Daycare or Extended Care options, children may be dropped off in Room 200 at 7:00AM. After completing their day in the classroom at 1:30PM, children will be taken to Room 200 by their teachers. The children will have free time to unwind and play in centers. They will then have quiet time followed by an afternoon snack. After snack and cleanup, the children will spend time playing in the gym. If the weather is nice, they will spend the remainder of the afternoon on the playground. The extended care Transitional Kindergarten hours are from 7:00AM - 6:00PM.
