Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten is a wonderful program offered for children who have completed a 4-year-old program who need another year to develop physically, socially, or academically prior to entering Kindergarten. We believe in offering a calm, nurturing environment in which these children can be challenged at their individual levels to develop confidence in the skills needed for future success in school.

Our Transitional Kindergarten serves as a bridge for children who, in essence, need the gift of time – time that is essential to absorb and express ideas, learn more about friendships, assert independence, and examine the world around them. This allows the children to become more confident as they move to the next level of academic achievement.

The Transitional Kindergarten program has a comprehensive curriculum that meets the needs of the 5-year old child at a pace that has been adapted to best suit their abilities. As children acquire skills, they advance at their own individual pace to the next level.

Math Curriculum

We offer a developmental, activity-based program targeting:

  • Hands-on, free exploration
  • Patterns
  • Sorting
  • Classifying
  • Counting
  • Comparing
  • Graphing

We also work with numbers at the concept level, connecting level, and the symbolic level.

Language curriculum

With our language curriculum we encourage the children to develop all of their language skills in a variety of fun ways! Language comes alive and literacy grows. The program is designed to:

  • Motivate children
  • Facilitate oral development
  • Develop print awareness
  • Teach letters and sounds
  • Promote reading comprehension
  • Develop writing and spelling skills
  • Enhance social development

Themes from our new curriculum, The Investigator's Club, include the following:

  • Under Construction
  • Healthy You
  • Finny, Feather, Furry Friends
  • Splash & Dig
  • Watch It Grow
  • Weather Watchers / Seasons
  • Transportation

We promote spiritual growth with daily Bible stories and weekly scripture memorization. Bible stories take us through the Old and New Testaments.

To round out our program, we have Special Classes throughout the week. They include Art class, Science Room, Computer class, Drama and Movement class, Multicultural/Missions class, Spanish class, and Fun-'N-Fitness.

In January, we hold parent-teacher conferences to show the parents the progress their child has made in our program.

Transitional Kindergarten is offered both as a Standard Program and as a Daycare Program. Flexible Extended Care hours are available as well. If a parent chooses the Daycare or Extended Care options, children may be dropped off in Room 200 at 7:00am. After completing their day in the classroom at 1:30pm, children will be taken to Room 200 by their teachers. The children will have free time to unwind and play in centers. They will then have quiet time followed by an afternoon snack. After snack and cleanup, the children will spend time playing in the gym. If the weather is nice, they will spend the remainder of the afternoon on the playground. The extended care Transitional Kindergarten hours are from 7:00am - 6:00pm.
